Wobble Board and Balance Board for Foot and Ankle Injuries

Wobble Board and Balance Board for Foot and Ankle Injuries

Even if you are a fairly sedentary creature and you don’t have a job that requires you to be on your feet for hours at a time, it is possible to hurt your feet and ankles. Just like the hands, the feet contain dozens of delicate bones, and even when they are encased in rubber and leather, they can be injured. Unlike the hands, however, the feet and ankles can take a long time to recover, for obvious reasons — we have to walk on them.

Two basic pieces of equipment that are often used in foot and ankle rehabilitation are a wobble board and balance board . As you might expect, a wobble board is really nothing more than a specialised board that people stand on to help them slowly strengthen their feet and ankles. It is often used in yoga and even by some personal and sports trainers.

Though they can be used by nearly anyone, they were original designed for people with bad ankle sprains. It is no wonder that the wobble board is a popular piece of equipment for football and basketball players who frequently injure their feet and ankles.

What are the benefits? When a person injures their ankle it tends to become stiff and uncomfortable. Wobble boards help treat this condition by improving the range of motion by simply stretching it out and keeping it loose. Really, there is nothing worse for an injured ankle (unless it is a serious injury) than to fail to stretch it out.

A wobble board can also strengthen the muscles that surround the ankle to help you avoid re-injury. It may also help relieve chronic pain that is often associated with serious injuries.
