What are Skate Shoes? As you may have already guessed, skate shoes are used by skateboarders and are intended to provide superior protection to the most vulnerable parts of the body. In fact, for obvious reasons, skateboarding can be especially hard on the feet and ankles. And, although they might feel invulnerable, it is not at all uncommon for even experienced skateboarders to visit the casualty department with serious foot and ankle injuries. The most common and debilitating of these injuries is a fractured ankle. So what do skate shoes actually do? Well, they aren’t going to prevent every injury, but they are specifically designed to protect the feet and ankles. Features: As with any sport-specific shoe, skate shoes were designed with only two things in mind: to improve performance and to prevent injuries. That is why all skate shoes have a flat sole that is made of either rubber or polyurethane. The soles are designed to offer increased flexibility as well as board grip. Specially designed air pockets in the heels are meant to limit heel bruises as well as more serious ankle injuries. The shoe itself is often made of leather, which is the most durable material for a sports shoe. The standard skate shoe also has lace loops and protectors that conceal the laces and prevent them from being ripped or torn during tricks. |
